How our data value estimator works

The estimator applies fixed assumptions to your answers and displays an illustrative dollar range. It does not search buyer offers, inspect your data, or use a database of completed transactions. Its formula has not been calibrated against market outcomes.

What the result can tell you

The tool organizes a first conversation about business scale, documentation and possible licensing. A result is not a valuation, an offer, a forecast of income or evidence that any AI buyer wants your data.

Which answers affect the calculation?

Inputs used by the current model
InputEffect
Employee countSelects a starting dollar range. Businesses below 30 employees fall outside this tool’s current screening criteria.
Years in businessApplies a multiplier to each end of the range.
Business domainApplies sector-specific assumptions. These are not observed market prices.
Data typesEach selected type adds 0.05 to a starting multiplier of 1, capped at 1.30.
Documentation richnessApplies a multiplier based on your self-assessment.
English documentationApplies a multiplier or excludes the lowest option under the current screening criteria.
Headquarters and regulated informationGenerate contextual notes; they do not change the numeric calculation.
Entity count and deal structureCollect context; they do not change the numeric calculation.

How the formula combines those inputs

Each endpoint is calculated as: starting range endpoint × years multiplier × domain multiplier × data-type multiplier × richness multiplier × English-documentation multiplier. Results are rounded to the nearest $5,000. When the upper endpoint reaches $1 million, the display uses “$1M+”.

These are assumptions inherited from the original tool, not a verified pricing model. The tool does not determine your licensing rights, preparation costs, uniqueness or buyer fit. Those questions require review before any transaction.

What happens to my answers?

The calculation runs in your browser. Answers are not automatically submitted to Data Sell Side or saved in a lead database. The representation button opens an email draft with your summary; you choose whether to send it. No document upload is required. Hosting providers may process technical request logs.

How do I get a meaningful assessment?

Start with a high-level description of the records, their history and known restrictions. A representation discussion can identify what needs further review. Do not send raw datasets, confidential records or personal information in an initial email.
