Can I sell my company’s data to AI buyers?
Potentially. A business may be able to license a defined dataset when it has the necessary rights, the data meets a buyer’s needs, and the parties agree on permitted uses. There is no universal price or guaranteed buyer.

Start with what you can actually license
Identify the records involved, where they came from, and the contracts or permissions that govern them. Business ownership alone does not settle the rights to every record. Customer information, third-party content, employee communications and regulated records may require exclusions or specialist review. Removing names does not by itself settle licensing rights.
Will an AI company buy it?
A buyer needs a reason to use your dataset. Ask what it reveals that other sources do not: a documented process, specialist knowledge, longitudinal outcomes, or examples of decisions and exceptions. These are possible characteristics to assess, not a list of datasets with confirmed demand.
Public licensing partnerships show that some organizations enter AI content agreements. For example, OpenAI announced a content partnership with News Corp. That announcement does not establish the demand for your records or a comparable valuation. Read the original partnership announcement.
What makes a dataset worth exploring?
- Relevance: a defined use case and a potential buyer who needs it.
- Coverage: useful history, completeness and consistent records.
- Documentation: understandable fields, provenance and limitations.
- Rights: a clear basis for the proposed licence and its permitted uses.
- Delivery: manageable preparation, access and update requirements.
What would I be agreeing to?
A licence can specify a snapshot or recurring delivery, permitted uses, duration, exclusivity, onward sharing, reporting and payment. Compare the full obligations alongside the headline price. Have your counsel review the agreement before signing.
How much could my company's data be worth?
An online model cannot establish market value. Value depends on a specific dataset, a buyer’s need and negotiated terms. Our free tool provides an illustrative range from an inherited, uncalibrated model. It has not been validated against completed transactions. Use it to organize an initial conversation, not as an offer or financial forecast.
How Data Sell Side helps
We represent the business owner in exploring preparation, potential buyers and licensing terms. Our process is prepare, estimate, compare any offers, negotiate, and seek the owner’s approval. Representation does not guarantee a transaction. Fees and engagement scope should be agreed before work begins.
What should I prepare for a first conversation?
A high-level inventory is enough to begin: the business sector, years covered, kinds of records, how they are stored, and known restrictions. Do not email raw datasets or confidential records. Start with a description.
